These are a couple photos of the factory installed hydraulic hoses on the 200HP Yamaha outboard. One photo with motor up and one with motor down.

The bend in the hose is concerning to me.

What actions do you recommend?

Curt

Hi Curt,

Could you please send me the boat hull ID number? It is located under the starboard side of the swim step, above a light on the hull (the light is for trailering).

The best approach is to replace the hose and have it rerouted to prevent the issue from recurring. Additionally, have the hydraulic system repurged to remove any air from the lines after replacing the hose. Please reach out to the dealer you bought the boat from for assistance with this.

Thank you,

Jared

Thanks Jared - I just sent a direct email to you a few mins ago.

Jared,

Based on your email response to me the hydraulic hose replacement will not be covered by the warranty, because the boat is slightly over 1 year old and I am the second owner.

I am not whining about having to pull the boat out of the marina and find a shop to professionally flush/refill the hydraulic fluid after the hose is replacement, sometimes that's just the way it goes.

Here is the main point -- I just want others to be aware that Ranger Tugs may be lacking some serious quality control at the factory.

And because this particular issue is a life-safety risk when offshore - It's no small matter to me and my family.

Hi Curt,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns. I understand your frustration regarding the hydraulic hose replacement not being covered under warranty, especially given the circumstances.

Firstly, I want to emphasize that at Ranger Tugs, we take quality control very seriously. While our team strives to ensure the highest standards, it's important to recognize that, occasionally, issues can still arise. This is not indicative of poor quality control, but rather an acknowledgment that even with the best practices, failures can occur.

The boat in question was delivered to the original owner on December 16, 2022, and is now slightly over a year out of warranty. We understand that the timing is unfortunate, but the warranty period has expired.

In the marine environment, components are exposed to various stresses, and sometimes unexpected failures happen. These occurrences are not a reflection of inadequate quality but a reminder of the inherent challenges in boat maintenance and operation.

We understand the significance of this issue, particularly given the safety implications when offshore. Your feedback is valuable and will be taken into consideration to improve our processes further.

For your convenience, below is a link to where the hydraulic hose can be purchased:

https://www.amazon.com/uflex-KITOBDBR-03-Cylinder-Engine-Connection/dp/B002IV555O

If there's anything specific we can assist you with during the replacement process or if you have any further concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Best regards,

Jared

Jared,

Thank you for the reply.

Can you put me in touch with one of your technicians over the phone so I understand the best way to re-install or route the replacement hose?

Last thing I want is the replacement hose to develop the same kink and I am back where I started.

"Pro Tips" are much appreciated.

Curt
