Bought a 'speed knob' to help with close-maneuvering & docking online, but RT steering wheel is too thick. Any suggestions where to buy one that fits a RT? I used one on another boat and it helped docking with an O/B greatly.
Thx.

We bought this one on Amazon and really like it! Hope this displays ok.

This was for a 2018 Ranger Tug 27 OB.

Thanks for the link. Just ordered one.

Hi Sam,

I'd be interested in your opinion on that suicide knob once you get it in your hands. I would like one as well but haven't found one that I liked.

This was the exact one I bought for our 2019 RT27 OB. Wheel was MUCH too thick for it. RT factory may have changed to thicker wheels in '19? Anyone know the actual diameter of an RT27 OB steering wheel?

Just added the EDSON MARINE–ProSeries Steering PowerKnob. Not inexpensive ($125:00 +or-) but does have a very good feel. It should for that price! It has a stainless strap that goes around the wheel. I did add a very small screw to the back of it to totally secure it. It really does help especially when docking in tight situations.

I'm not sure you did get the same one. We had this one on our 2019 R27 OB and there was no problem with the thickness of the steering wheel. As I recall, there was an additional gasket so it would fit on smaller wheels, but we didn't use that because the wheel on the R27 was too thick.

I bought this exact item for my R23, based on the posts hear saying it would fit. But the steering wheel is so thick that the spinner doesn't even come close to fitting. Does anyone know how some of the other posts bought this and got it to fit? Do different Ranger tugs have different steering wheels?

Thanks,
Jack

Gave up on the stock vinyl pad that came with the recommended Spinner. Found a slightly THINNER, clear vinyl 'toe-pad' at the supermarket (needs something to protect the Ranger's nice helm finish vs. the Spinner's clamp-spikes) and cut it to fit. The problem is the thickness of the supplied black vinyl insert-pad: needs ~1MM thinner for the RT (but thick enough and tough enough to still protect the wheel finish).

I added the suicide knob based on the recommendation by Annie Time and it matches perfectly. More importantly, it helped my docking greatly in tight spaces making me think, why did it take me so long to buy one of these?

I took the rubber spacer off and attached to helm with no problem! Will it leave marks on the helm wheel? Yes, but will let the kids worry about that after I'm long gone! Remember it's just a boat and I'm going to use it and enjoy it. If I wanted an investment for resale I sure as heck wouldn't buy a boat for that! Just my 2&1/2 cents worth. Bob

I also bought the knob recommended by Annie Time and it does fit my 2018 R27OB, although just barely at first with only a couple of threads exposed on the bolt to attach the nut. However, once on then a few turns with a wrench compressed the rubber insert and made it secure. I really like it, mostly for maneuvering in and out of the slip and since I drive the boat mostly standing up it's not in the way. On the negative side, my wife likes to drive sitting down and complains that the knob hits her legs when she's has her feet on the footrest.

From the Amazon listing for the wooden necker knob (what we called them as teenagers) above:
"● Increases the dignity of the car and helps safe driving"
If it has the same effect on boats, I'd be concerned about the implications of driving an overly dignified R27.

Instead of the knob, this is my solution. I like it for a couple of reasons:
1. It's not going to punch me in case of a sudden stop / deceleration.
2. Cheap.
3. Easier for me to grab.

Visit my Album to see it. For some reason I can't insert it or link it here. Operator error I guess.

We have a 2022 R25OB, anyone find a suitable knob that fits for this steering wheel on the newer 25’s?

R23 and R25 and R27s have 3 spoke wheels. I bought a speed knob on Ebay with a long through bolt ......threw away the wheel wrap adapter and mounted the knob to the spokes using large fender washers with the edges rolled slightly in bench vise to keep knob from sliding on spokes. Being mounted inboard from wheel rim stops knuckle busting and improves the spin ratio due to smaller radius of diameter. Beats the rim mount that hit my leg on rapid maneuvers.

I to added the Amazon Knob. Had to remove the rubber insert to get a good fit, but figure the next Owner will also like and use the knob so any damage to the Steering wheel is a none issue.

Top line has a really nice suicide knob.

The XL version fits the Ranger Tug steering wheel snug with the rubber insert. No scratches. No wobble. Really nice.

I switched to it a year ago.

It’s posted up on my website.
