A related question - on our Classic, the manual refers to a connection for MP3 players. I have looked until my eyes crossed, but have not found the plug. Any idea where it is?
It all depends on the radio you have installed.
If it's a Clarion CMD5 you have one auxiliary input. I believe ranger installed the "headphone jack" auxiliary input for boats with that radio. To use it you switch your radio to "aux" and use a jumper cable between your phone, ipod or whatever you are using as a source. The jack should be to the right of the stereo.
If it's a Clarion CMD6 you have two auxiliary inputs plus a USB input for ipod. The CMD6 will control the ipod and so the wireless remote or the wired remote. The CMD6 also will control a CD changer and has input for Sat radio and bluetooth.
If you have a CMD5 a CMD6 would be a great upgrade and has the same wiring harness. It's about a 5 minute job to do the swap. I picked up a CMD6 on ebay then sold my CMD5 on ebay.
Clarion also makes a input similar to the single "headphone jack" input that also as a USB input for a ipod. It will also charge a phone. In my quest for a R25 Classic I have looked at several boats. I have not seen any with this input. If I get a chance I'll take a picture and post it. Here is a link to the newer style input.
http://www.clarion.com/us/en/products-p ... index.html The video output according to Clarion is for ipods that support video. I know from experience that it is not for the 3.5mm plug. The 3.5 mm plug only supports the audio using three conductors not the fourth that carries video from some portable DVD players.
We have TV hooked to the CMD6 and can watch it from the cockpit on our 21. We also have bluetooth and the "headphone jack" hooked to the CMD6. The only thing I have not been able to figure out is how to mute the stereo when the VHF has a incoming transmission. I ran a wire from the stereo to up by the radio and hooked it to the mute wire on the stereo harness. It will mute the stereo when grounded. The only problem is that the Standard Horizon has continuous output to the auxiliary speaker and wil constantly mute. There are units that can vary the output but all I know about are 110VAC units because of a previous life stringing low voltage wire in high end homes. Oh well, I have deviated.
Now you know why I was concerned about speakers in the cockpit of the 25 Classic. I have future plans.
