Won't be picking up my 2011 Ranger 21 for a couple of weeks. Would like to order lettering for the Stern. There appears to be an area above the swim platform that may accommodate maybe 5 or 6 inch lettering? And hailing port of perhaps 1.5 to 2 inches below that, but just above the platform? Does this sound correct? Thanks, Jeff

I don't know how much spacing you have on your boat, but to put the size lettering and hailing port size that I wanted on my boat I used the cooler mounted on swim platform, and placed name and port on plexiglass then mounted to cooler
Just another thought to consider!

Check your state rules.
I recall reading that the letters for name and home port had to be a certain minimum size.
I can't recall if it was a Maryland rule or a Coast Guard Documentation rule.

Welcome.

Just checked my local, state and federal rules and regulations, no rules regs or laws as to the requirements of naming your beer cooler!

Unless it is documented then anything goes. As I recall it was not less than 4" high block lettering per USCG, but I see all kinds. You just need the registration numbers to follow state guidelines. I think the registration size is at least 3" high https://www.uscgboating.org/images/420.PDF

Years back we had a Catalina 34 and I had a local shop do Vinyl custom lettering. On the form I said it could go anywhere between the hull portlight and the transom on each side. They misunderstood it that I wanted the area filled.

The first time we arrived to see the work the boat was along a retaining wall and from half a mile away you could read the name! Holy Smokes! They filled the rear quarter of the boat (for $180 - we did great by the square foot). I said "she'd better be fast because everyone will know who we are.
