sticky window

I think I may have found a potential sticking point on the window. The window latch wraps around the forward edge of the window. The track that it fit into has a projected edge (projected inward). If you close the window slowly you can see the outside edge of the window latch makes contact with the outside edge of the track. Once the window is pushed forward the outside edge of the latch locks in behind the outside edge of the track. If you pull the window forward a bit while opening, it doesn't stick. I think I will, very carefully, file the lip off the outside edge of the track and leave the window latch alone. I will touch up the brown paint with a Q-Tip. If this works, I will do it on the other port side window that sticks. Why PORT side?

If you file the lip off then the window won't lock. Are you worried about someone opening the window from the outside. Usually a slight push forward and then pressing on the latch along with a firm pull works for me.

Denny-O made a suggestion a couple of years ago that seems to work well for getting a stuck window open. Cut a piece of wood so that it fits between the window frame and the window latch, make the piece of wood long enough so that when you place the wood between the latch and frame you have good leverage to be able to put pressure against the window frame to make a stuck window open. Press the metal window latch to open the window while at the same time putting pressure on the piece of wood between the frame and latch and presto the window opens every time and you keep the safety factor still in place. We keep the piece of wood up in the little locker above the helm area, as we use it quite often.

I will double check everything BEFORE I use a file! Thanks for the suggestions. Somehow, using a piece of wood to open a window on my "new for me" boat, just doesn't sit right for me. I will fix this on my boat. It must be the Mechanical Engineer in me? It bothers me when I can't figure something out. I do love this sight. A bunch of good info. Except, it's like an act of congress to be able to post pictures!!

Getting a User Photo Album for your Ranger Tug is easy but it requires submitting a request from within the site structure.

1. Sign on to the site, if you aren't already.

2. Select the User Control Panel link from the upper left corner of any page. Note: On the home page, this link is in your user menu.

3. Click the Usergroups tab, then select the radio button next to the User Albums group.
Scroll down, choose "Join selected" in the drop-down menu, and click the Submit button.

Once you do this, an email is automatically sent to the administrator (me). That message will trigger my ability to approve your request, and you'll receive an email indicating your membership in the User Albums group has been activated.

I'll watch for the message, and look forward to seeing your pictures.

I did check out the track today . The window latch is a separate part of the track. I was talking about the furthest outside edge. The window latch is on the middle lip. But why only on the port side? Curiouser and curiouser.
