Does anyone know if you need any paperwork to leave a Canadian , trailerable , boat in Florida for up to 6 months ? I have seen info on boats that go by water , they get a permit of some sort . When we trailered down for 5 weeks in April , nothing was mentioned about any paperwork going into the US . thanks Dave

I would give Marc Grove of Wefings in Florida a call. He seems to know Florida's laws pretty well. 850 670 8100. He might be able to hook you up with a place to store your whole rig.

I don't think they care so much about property just people..it would be great if you can find covered storage..

All kinds of covered storage in Florida. Just bring money

I am aware that you have to leave the USA on or before 6 months of being here
I strongly suspect that leaving a Canadian registered vehicle of more than token value in the USA beyond that may trigger import duties
What I do know for sure is that there is no rhyme or reason to borders and customs laws and that there is no flexibility in the enforcement of same. Do your homework with customs on both sides before you get double tapped.

Keeping all aspects legal...there is also a little known regulation in Florida for those visiting and keeping their boat there more than 90 days.

I will be vacationing in Florida. Do I need to register my vessel there?

Florida recognizes valid registration certificates and numbers issued to visiting boaters for a period of 90 days. An owner who intends to use his vessel in Florida longer than 90 days must register it with a county tax collector. However, he may retain the out-of-state registration number if he plans to return to his home state within a reasonable period of time.
