storing dinghy mast on roof rack

Hello,

Does anyone have any recommended way to store a dinghy masts ( have a 2 pcs mast) on he roof rack. Someone mentioned to me to cut out piece of wood with scallops on the top and mount it to the pipes.

Has anyone come up with any good ideas?

We carry a full sailing rig including 2-piece mast, rudder, sail, dagger board, etc. for our Walker Bay RID in a rocket box atop our hardtop, which also can be mounted on the sport rack. The roof top box will provide additional stowage for other items as well as the mast, and you can never have too many stowage options! We used to stow these items down below in the “cave”, but bulky, lightweight gear like this is more accessible up above and leaves more stowage space in the cabin.

For carrying similar light weight items on the rack we simple use a short piece of closed cell foam pipe insulation placed on the rack tubing then lash the item down with loop type bungies. It's a simple solution that costs next to nothing and works for various sized stuff.
