Hi Folks
I stopped at West Marine today to pick up another can of fuel for the cook stove on my Ranger 21 EC. The staff there told me that fuel will no longer be produced. Anyone know anything about this?
Panicked in Pa heh heh

What kind of fuel is it?

Its the butane cans . Bit smaller than can of spray paint. There are so many different stoves that use these I cant imagine it being a problem finding some.

Eric,
Look for these in Asian Supermarkets. You will find that they will run you between $.99 and $1.99 each. We found these in a place called Seafood City in San Diego and Vegas. I have seen them in a number of other Asian Supermarkets also. You will have a heart attack when you see the price they sell the stoves for....... Cheap!!!!

Thanks a lot. I will check it out

I have been paying way too much.

Don't worry, we discovered the same thing at a couple of years.....

Found fuel by the cases at restaurant supply store. Thanks everyone for advice. My panic is over. I can make coffee in mornings once again.

I took the Kenyon stove out of my boat because the cans would freeze but I did find a source of fuel at the commercial side of Costco. The store locally to me is in Fife Wa. Their price was good compared to West Marine. The commercial Costco does support food service businesses. Bob Heselberg in Eatonville Wa

I called Kenyon stove today, and they told me that you can get the butane cans for the KISS stove at ACE. Make sure the can is 7.8 oz. with the notch at the top. They will no longer have the cans.

Here is a place online for $16.49 for a case of 12. That works out to $1.37 a can. That is a lot better than the West Marine/Kenyan price of $5 a can.

And, if you want another burner, they got one for $11.49

But the shipping to me was $136.00! I haven't called them but they indicate they ship that only by common carrier and calculating the shipping on their cart page comes up with that number. I don't understand why. It appears it can be purchased from Amazon and shipped for under $17 so I presume "hazardous" doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. Does anyone have experience ordering fuel from from them, or these from Amazon?

I have found that they do leak down fairly quickly if left in the Kenyon stove and they do recommend removing the canister when the stove is not in use. That is a nuisance but, at the cost of the fuel, is probably good advice. I suppose the valve is like that on propane cylinders and snaps shut when not in place in the stove.

I had bought a case of fuel from a different supplier last year and only paid regular shipping. I did not pay for hazardous shipping.

Prices and availability change all the time. You will just have to check around to see what is currently available.

I noticed they ship normally by FedX and perhaps FedX will not carry that particular level of "hazardous". It does surprise me since UPS will carry some strange stuff, and as I recall, I just got an order of ammunition via FedX. I am going to check a Korean food store when I get up to Huntsville in a month or so. If I can't find it there, I may give those folks a call and see if there isn't another way to ship it for less than the $136.

Eric,

Suggest you try an RV store..

Some Wal-Marts have the canisters. Big 5 Sporting Goods. Cabela's. Ace Hardware.

The restaurant supply stores in our area carry these at commodity prices. Give this one in Pensacola a call. KESCO

Cheers,

Bruce

I bought 12 canisters from this web address on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Butane-GasOne-Can ... 957&sr=8-3

Net (including shipping) for a dozen came to $2.59 each. Shipping is proportionately less with added quantities so they can run even less if you use a lot or could order as a group. The vendor savezoneusa was responsive to my enquiries about whether they had the cut for orienting the canisters and shipped as soon as the order was placed.

They arrived today via UPS and are exact physical matches for the Kenyon canisters and actually have slightly more gas at 8 ounces. Maybe not the cheapest depending on where one lives, but convenient and a good price for those like us who are geographically challanged.
