Strange cracking on 2021 29s near gold stripe

Hello! Forgive me if this has been covered before… I did some searching and wasn’t able to find this mentioned.

I was looking at a 2021 29s and noticed consistent hairline cracks above and below the gold band around the boat.

Is this common? Does anyone know the cause or how best to deal with it? Thanks!

Our 2021 R29S has no such cracking. If I am not mistaken, Fluid Motion has installed white pin stripe tape at the location identified just to give nice clean lines where the gold gel coat band joins the white gel coat. I suspect the boat you were looking at had considerable sun exposure and/or perhaps had faulty pin stripe tape. Removal and replacement of the pin stripe should be relatively easy and inexpensive and is clearly not structural.

Your boat likely has tape in a number of exterior locations. Especially along gel coat color boundaries. Your photo is what the tape looks like when it cracks. No big deal. Easy diy fix.
Your waterline tape will eventually start cracking and/or pealing too. Our 2017 C-28 red tape at the waterline completely disintegrated this past season. A million little pieces.

Virtually all this tape was blown away by my pressure washer last year. My boat is 2018, it lasted a good 6 years.

I haven't bothered replacing it.
