We bought our 2008 R25 classic used in 2014. Ever since we've had the boat there has been what I consider excessive corrosion of the shaft anode(aka zinc). The boat is dry stored and when we use it is usually for 5-7 day trips in salt water. Historically the zinc degrades enough during each trip that I have to tighten the retaining bolt. After three or four weeks on the water it needs to be replaced.

On the first night of our first trip this season the aft thruster failed. The mode of failure was that it locked on. I had to disconnect the cable to the thruster in order to still have use of the forward thruster. Now with 12 days on the water there is essentially zero degradation of the shaft zinc. Coincidence? My experience suggests not. Interestingly the aluminum anode on the thruster itself has only needed replacement every third season or so.

Moral of the story? I don't know. If it seems like somethings wrong, it is?
