Hello all. I've been lurking in the background here for some time, soaking in all the helpful information. Thanks so much for all the sharing.
My wife and I are ramping up our search for our retirement Ranger Tug, and are interested in one on Vancouver Island. Can anyone recommend a good surveyor to check out a Ranger 25? What kind of cost are we looking at for a survey? Is a survey really necessary (for insurance or otherwise) if buying a 4 year old boat from the local RT dealer? They do seem to have a good reputation, but how thoroughly do they inspect boats for resale? I do have years of smaller boat experience, good mechanical skills, and a technology career background; so I'm not quite starting from ground zero here; but definitely lots more to learn about these tugs. I would at the very least expect to do a good inspection of my own and a sea trial. Is that enough?
Thanks

We used this guy in September 2015 from the Sidney area. Very thorough and provided a very detailed report. Did a check on the hard and a sea trial. Reasonable pricing. We never found anything wrong after the sale closed that he hadn't noted. Please keep in mind this was NOT a mechanical inspection of engine or "drivetrain". We had a different guy do that. Would absolutely recommend both a survey and mechanical inspection on a used boat if out of warranty.
