How many zincs do I need for the two thrusters on my 2012 R-27? 2 OR 4 ?

In the darkness I was able to remove remnants of zincs on the opposite end of the props, but I'm not sure if there are actual zincs on the prop sides. These have probably been in place for 1-1/2 to 2 seasons and were pretty well eaten up. I didn't have a flashlight to do an accurate examination.

Easy answer...on our 2012 R27 there is one zinc on the opposite side of each thruster propeller.

That's interesting. Our 2014 R27 has only one zinc per thruster. The thruster models must have changed sometime between 2012 qnd 2014.

Curt

Thanks, Red Raven.
I think you are both saying the same thing. Aren't you?

Rich

You are right. I misunderstood Jim's response to mean there was one zinc on each side of each thruster for a total of two per thruster. That is not what it actually says. My mistake!

Sorry for the confused way my post was written, I was even scratching my head after I re read it. Answer: 2 zincs, one on the bow and one on the stern thruster.

Jim

I read both of your answers clearly. Probably because of the obtuse way I worded the question.

As you guys have probably noticed, I rely on this site for all sorts of niggling questions. A crazy thought crosses your mind, you post a question and, boom, answers start to pop up.

I'm active on another site for MGB's. It has a much bigger customer base and many more posts per day. I can lay under the car, post a question and in fifteen minutes answers start to flow. Thank God for Al Gore's amazing internet!

Let’s make this a teachable moment. Today’s word is,

ob·tuse

əbˈt(y)o͞os,äbˈt(y)o͞os/
adjective
1. 1.
annoyingly insensitive or slow to understand.
"he wondered if the doctor was being deliberately obtuse" about his Ranger Tug or his MGB.

Hey, it’s the weekend and it’s too warm in the Northeast, but not warm enough to put the boat in for the season! Just bored.

Only the second tine that it has been used on Tugnuts. (June 4, 2013)

AND the third time, we had a definition.

Oh, just got back from the boat. It looks like the prop is held in place by a prevailing torque nut, no zinc there.

EXCELLENT Bay Ranger!
How long did it take to research that tid bit of information?

Which tidbit? The usage of "obtuse"? Only a few seconds... I did a search.

By the way: "prevailing" has only been used 22 times, mostly prevailing wind, or conditions, or wisdom. A first time appearance of "prevailing torque".

Come on summer!
