I am finally getting round to replacing the light weight and bullet proof Mercury 3.3 outboard (Tohatsu built) from 2001. I love the motor but feel guilty whenever I see the smoke it produces and would like to feel a bit greener. I am leaning toward the Suzuki 2.5 mainly because of weight and good reviews here on Tugnuts. I liked the Yamaha 2.5 better except for the weight and my experience with the centrifugal clutch on a Honda still makes me annoyed years later. The question comes about servicing. I know about getting into 4-stroke vs. 2-stroke and being into oil levels, valves etc. but reading the Suzuki owners manual it talks about checking valve clearance etc. after only a few hours and identifies this and other items as being dealer functions. That's really not attractive! Has anyone found a copy of a 2020, or even 2019, service manual?

Thanks

Yep I have a manual for my 2019 2.5 hp Suzuki. It does say to have a dealer or qualified service tech inspect the valve lash
at 20 hours or 1 month. After that it’s every 200 hours or 12 months.

Thanks for responding but I'm looking for the service manual, not the owner's manual. I don't want to pay the qualified service tech. but do the work myself.

Sorry all I have is the owners manual.

I just purchased and a new 6hp Suzuki. I am looking for a service manual too. It seems that all aftermarket manuals are for older engines. I'm going to call a dealer this week and see if he can order a service manual for me. I believe most of the manuals are not book style, they are electronic. I have searched and found nothing. When I find an answer I will post how to get a manual if available.

I used my 6 hp Suzuki yesterday and I'm quite happy with its running characteristics. I have always been a portable outboard 2 stroke owner. weight/HP ratio is better. The 6hp Suzuki weighs (53lbs) in line with the weight of my 7.5 2 stroke Evinrude 57lbs, my 6 hp Chrysler (50lbs) and my 15/9.9 hp Mariner (80 lbs.) The built-in tank (.26 gallon) took us for 1.5 hour cruise averaging 1/2 throttle (break-in) before running out of gas. 5 minutes more and we would have made the trip on the built-in tank. I had a remote tank for back up and used it to get us back to the boat. This same dinghy ride with the 2 strokes would have easily burned 1.5 gallons of gas, 1/2 tank of my remote 3 gallon tank. Idle is incredible, and no smoke. The only negative is the 2 strokes 7.5 and 15/9.9 would plane the inflatable 2 passengers easily. 6 hp Suzuki just not enough power to break plane with 2.

Servicing the 4 stroke Valve adjustment is usually done at the 20 hr run time along with oil change, filter and gear lube after that once a season. I have not adjusted valves on one of these small Suzuki outboards but I assume it is similar to the smaller 4 stoke dirt bikes. My son had a DT125 Suzuki Enduro. I would check valve adjustment once a year and only made one adjustment in 4 years with a lot of hours of riding the bike.

For an up-to-date service manual go to "suzuki-4-stroke.marinemanuals.com". A download copy costs $4.95 USD.
I got "server not found" when I tried the link.
