Sweet Love goes to Europe

Sounds like the trips of a life time. Two years ago a ran an older wooden 36 foot boat through some of the fjords in southern Norway. It was a great experience.

Thanks Karll. Hope to get there next year.

If you care to share it, how are you dealing with the import duties and taxes of a long term stay? Is it just a line item in the cost of taking one’s boat to Europe?

I spent a lot of time laying over in Cologne, Germany. Our hotel backed up to the Rhine. I always watched the river traffic. The current on the best day is wicked!

Have a great trip!

There is no import taxes and no vat tax as long as one does not stay in a Shengen country less than 18 months. With England no part of the Schengen (nor Ireland) it allows me the opportunity to run there to break the 18 month issue. A bigger issue is 90 days every 180 days. No USA/Canadian/Australian or I believe non-Shengen country citizens can be in the Schengen area more than 90 days every 180 days.

Correction, my boat is subject to VAT tax if I stay longer than 18 months in the Schengen area. One can run out, like England or Turkey or northern Africa and return the next day to avoid this issue.

Sounds like a great trip, keep us posted. Can you give us a rough idea as to shipping costs? Where are you shipping from and too?
