Hello all,

My swim platform shower has stopped working after 1 use.
Neither hot nor cold provide water, so I assume the problem is the mixing valve, or immediately before / after same.

Any thoughts on the first, second, third troubleshooting steps?
I really don't want to take the PEX fittings apart, except as the last resort.

Thanks,
Jeff Radwill

Hi Jeff, This is just a hunch. There is a small water restriction plug that is at the base of the shower handle where it connects to the hose. It is extremely small. There may be a piece of debris that is plugging the water restrictor. Make sure valves are closed, unscrew shower handle and see if there is any debris there.

I felt that the water flow was too slow on my transom shower so I drilled out the hole a little bit and it now works great.

Let us know what you find out.

John

You may find plastic pipe shavings in filters. these shavings are from original installation. Seem to show up in many places during the first year.

Also check the hose as it does get pinched/twisted/kinked and when it does you’ll get no water.

I have to admit my lack of knowledge on this one.

I didn't know the temperature control valve was also a twist and pull shut-off valve. I thought the only shut-off was on the shower head handle. I took the valve handle off and happened to notice the valve could be pressed in and out.
Hmmm, could this be my problem?

Now that it works, it's a shame the water pump can't keep the pressure constant. It pumps, shuts off until the pressure drops, pumps... repeat.

In my past life I had a Cutwater 28 and an R29. Last week I sea trialed my new R27.

The water pump noise was SO much louder than the previous boats. Ivan suggested an accumulator...which might help with this issue too. They’re easy to install and pretty inexpensive.

I’m planning on getting one down the road just to keep the pump from running so much and waking the neighbors. 😉

Tanks.
I accumulate a lot a knowledge here.

Sometimes a clogged screen at the pump can cause more pump recycling than normal. The pump noise,IMO, is a godsend as an indicator of pump and leak issues.

I'll have to check for a screen. If only RT provided an Owner's Manual...
Yes, I know there is a poor excuse for one here.
It's a brand new boat. I hope the screen isn't clogged so soon.

Our R29 had a very weak shower as well. I opened up the hole at the base of the handle (as mentioned above). I also installed an accumulator. The accumulator does make all of the fresh water system more "normal" and pleasant sounding. I recommend that.

Jeff -
there are many posts on this subject. I have stated before that in my opinion I would check for shavings first. Why spend money on new pumps and accumulator if you do not need it. I was having a terrible issue with the pump pulsating. I could just feel my neighbors cringe when my wife ran water early in the morning. When I got home I pulled the inlet line off the pump and it had some shavings in it. I put it back together and had my wife turn on the water. She was very pleased. I posted a picture in my album. All the pulsating was gone. No problems since. Others may have different issues but I would try this free fix first. Takes about 10 minutes to do. Next I will wrap any water lines I can get to with pipe insulation so see if that stops some of the rattling noise. Mostly in the head area.

As to the manual - I would look to the individual instructions provided by the manufacturer for each component. These boats are like plug and play as far as components go. Unlike a car the parts are not made by or specifically for RT. Most parts have a trouble shooting page. Often I go to youtube or google and find others that have had similar issues.

Yes I had allot of the shavings, cleaned out last week. The noise went from pulsating to steady state. So this weekend I will try the accumulator .

I cleaned out the filter and yes, there was debris. Also, the pulsating as diminished to a dull roar. I suspect the pump has worn in a bit.

All is well.
