When we bought the boat (we are 2nd owners), there were numerous small things that had to be fixed .... the rear door latch that holds it open was originally plastic and the bar piece had broken and we could not find a replacement, so we upgraded to a stainless catch that works really well. It is a bit tricky to get lined up perfectly but in the end was worth it.I tried to figure out how to upload an image of it, but so far the software is not letting me get it placed, but it was an Amazon latch and was $12. If I can figure out how to add image I will plug it into the thread.

It would be really great to see a picture. The function that provides for inserting pictures has been inoperative for a long time. Would be nice to see it get fixed. Seems like more and more folks are going to Facebook which actually works.

I will never do facebook or linked in or any of the social media for personal experience reasons ... this and a couple of forums are about as close to social media as I will ever get ... BUT if you want to email me, I can send you what I did and I know how to put pix in email. Hope I can help. pugwerks487@gmail.com

Perhaps just add the link to the Amazon part you ordered.

Has anyone changed out the latch on the rear transom door to an upgraded system? Ours continues to rattle and sometimes open on it's own while under way. Would love to know a successful replacement. TIA.

A stainless latch with a rubber (nylon?) insert in the hole will stop the rattle. Available in marine hardware stores.

Posting pictures is not inoperative.

Pictures can be added to posts in two ways. The Img tag allows you to post an image available on any publicly accessible host, i.e. amazon prime photos, google photos, and many others.

Using the g2Img tag allows you to post a picture in a Tugnuts gallery album.

The ability to add or modify gallery items is inoperative. See the BBCode Guide for instructions. FAQs and BBCode Guide are accessible at home > upper left > blue menu box.

Cheers,

Bruce

Something I found out in doing the little repairs on boat exterior: I have changed out the little clip that holds the mast tilt gizmo, some stanchions on the swim step, the chromed engine exhaust port (and that one was not bonded into the galvanic system so you know how that turned out!) and the back door latch - for some reason, RT apparently does not bed hardware with 3M 5200 or Sikaflex or whatever. During your repairs, be sure to bed your hardware .... just one step to making better into betterer.

Gini and Bruce - thx for the link idea .... never claimed to be the brightest star in the sky

I like the one by Boat Outfitters - looks quite roBeast!

I think there are two different door catches being discussed in this post. I understood wa7pug, the original poster, to have replaced the plastic “catch” that holds open the short Starboard type between the cockpit and the swimstep. The Amazon link he has now posted looks like a nice SS replacement for the plastic one that the factory installs.

The catch from Boatoutfitters posted by TK looks like the one used for the cabin door, which is obviously much larger and heavier and needs a more stout catch.

Gini - correct on both counts

Roger that, wa7pug!

My C242 came with a nice stainless latch that would rattled and would release when underway. I simply made a nylon strap with a snap on top and under the latch to secure it. No more coming open or rattle.

I am looking for the proper replacement for the latch that holds the transom door shut (not open). TIA.
