We trailer our Kismet and are used to VERIZON's cell service, having had it for over 7 years of our trailering travels. Someone mentioned that they use T Mobile and are very happy with the costs, standard features, reception and over 55 discount. I'd like to hear from those who have TMobile and travel and your first hand thoughts of your likes or dislikes with your service, reception, pricing, etc. To keep it simple for me I'm only looking for T Mobile input.

Thanks, Jim F

Same questions crossed our mind a couple of weeks ago. So I called Verizon and asked why I should stay with them. The lady hemmed and hawed a bit then said, "Let me check something." When she came back she had a 30% discount offer for one of our lines. You might try it too.

Look carefully at T-mobile coverage and where you will be using it. For us, in Maine, T-mobile has poor coverage. We stay with the pricier Verizon as they have the coverage we require.

Jim F: Why are you looking beyond your current service ? Is it cost, service coverage, features, reception quality, etc ?

For someone to provide feedback one would need to know your current cost to make a comparison with someone's T-Mobile cost for example.

Pricing is quite a variable and can be vastly different between people for no understandable reason.

I have AT&T and cannot provide any feedback for you I'm afraid.

Hi Jim,

For the last decade+, our travels have taken us all around the US. In talking with others from coast to coast to coast, none of the other carriers have the coverage of Verizon. T-Moble has some areas with decent reception (I've heard it is good in some of the PNW), but talked to so many wandering folks who have given up on T-Mobile because of the lack of coverage.

We have an old (really old) Verizon plan that gives us unlimited data with no throttling. If we were to make any changes, we would lose that. When going into Canada for any length of time, we have a phone with Rogers that we can just add minutes to as needed. For calls back to the US, Skype has worked well for us.

Just some observations.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

From one who has spent his entire career in cellular with T-Mobile as his prime customer I can tell you that I have Verizon service for the coverage. T-Mobile is a discount carrier for a reason and that reason is their coverage. If you don't need your phone often you will possibly be ok but if you travel and are often in areas of poor coverage, when you change to T-Mobile you will not be happy.

Only my 2 cents, your mileage may vary, but I doubt it 🙂

I have service with a local carrier in Alaska(GCI) whose nationwide plan operates on the T-Mobile network when outside Alaska. My wife's phone runs on the ATT network both in AK and elsewhere. When we are traveling her coverage is always better than mine. This seems to correspond with others' feedback regarding T-Mobile coverage. One caveat is that we have different phones so the antennae may be the difference.

If you travel plans include Alaska I do know that Verizon operates on the GCI network up there and has excellent coverage. One exception is that ATT has the contract to provide marine coverage on Prince William Sound. Unless we're in a fjord surrounded by mountains my wife's phone works all over the sound.

Lots of good feedback so far. Barry you asked why? For no other reason then it is sometimes a good idea to check up on the competition to see how things like reception, pricing, options have changed, as compared to what one currently has. I've been happy with VERIZON but I've read and heard that there coverage is within 1% of Verizon's now. Because we travel we want reliable coverage so the importance of getting opinions from other travelers who have cell experience seemed like a good way to measure people's opinions. Any more thoughts are appreciated and thank you for the ones already made.
