Just wanted to share this cool Shade Kit I found online...

Purchased last week and had shipped UPS... Looked versatile enough that it would work on our Cutwater 26..

I have added photos in an album. It works great and took a few minutes to setup and packs away in a cool small pack to store in aft berth...

It can stay on while under way and doesn't collect spiders/bird dirt while away.

Thanks !!

Hello Sailorride,

That looks nice. Please share where you purchased.

I looked into some shades like this. There is a company making something like this called t-top shades. The material seems to be some elastic like spandex that is stretched between the cockpit and two telescoping poles in the fishing rod holders. For a r27 and similar size this shade goes for about $900+

There is another company called teshon that makes a similar product mostly used as decoration for walls and light sunshades, also very stretchable which cost a lot less and comes in more colors as far as I can tell. Look under stretchy screens.com for some economic solutions.

Figure if you were to use two telescoping boat hooks and insert them into fishing rod holders with an appropriate size ( custom sizes available) stretch fabric would make a decent sunshade for our tugs without breaking the bank. Perhaps getting a second one for side protection from sun and wind might be useful too. Using boat hooks is in the interest of dual purposing anything on a boat due to limited storage.

Of course the ultimate shades are the Bimini and side curtains. Depending on how much time you spend on the boat a cost of $4500+ may not be justified.

Just another thought in regard to dual purpose, cutting the table mattress for converting the settee into a bed into half not allows it to be stored better but can also double as cushion in the cockpit era above the generator locker.
I also removed the seat in the midberth and replaced with a camping chair with can double as chair in the cockpit area and folds rather neatly into a small space.

Anyone with additional multipurpose ideas please feel free to add on here

It seems to be easy to install and store away and it looks great 😎
