The hydraulic piston supporting the cabin table in my 2012 R27 is takes considerable effort to get lowered into the berth position. And yes, I release the clamps at the base first. Should I try to lubricate it? If so, with what?
 
Try a little WD-40. Also, the two clamps can be adjusted for tightness. Make sure they aren't so tight that they still provide friction when open.
