Subject: Temperature control for the Webasto diesel heater for R-23

For the R-23 the Webasto forced air diesel fuel heater has a temperature control unit in the cave. There are two heat outlets. The heat outlets are under Nav seat facing aft close to port side and the other outlet is on port side under lower shelving back from the sink I believe.

Having the heating temperature control unit in the cave kind of makes little sense to me as that area is likely to be cool and will cause the temperature in the cabin and V-berth to be too high. That is, say you set the desired temperature to be 70ºF, then in all likelihood the V-berth temperature will be maybe 80ºF or even higher. 😱

For R-23 owners who have the Webasto heater installed can you say how well having the temperature control unit in the cave performs in maintaining a comfortable temperature in the V-berth ?

Thank you. 🙂

Having gone from a 25SC to a 29S I can say that having the heater controls in the cave is certainly not as convenient as having them near the forward berth. That said, you quickly learn where to set the dial to maintain a comfortable temperature, whether for sleeping or just keeping the boat warm. There are no empirical temperature readings on the temp control.
