The great loop

Hello Ron

This year in Toronto at the Toronto International Boat Show we will have a R27 and R29S sitting right beside each other. I would agree with you what a great way to compare!
We will also be displaying Ranger R31CB and R21EC.

Hello Uboatcdr:

This is Jim of the Jim n Lisa Loopers who you state "This is all your fault". We are proud that it is our fault for what is in store for you two when you get to experience the Great Loop trip of a lifetime. We met a couple from Seattle, Washington anchored out on Lake Charlevoix, Michigan while on the Great Loop that we blame....three years after meeting them we were off to experience the Loop ourselves. Our Kismet is currently in Portland (stored) and awaiting our return in early January. Wished we would have known you were in the Hood Canal as when we were in Portland the later part of October and early November we took a three day trip up to Cascade Lock....our loss. Glad to talk anytime about the Great Loop or boating in general, stay in touch.

If you love adventure, like to challenge your skills, like to meet new people every day, love to learn new things and stay physically active then cruising the loop is the way to do it. Not all of the places you pass through are great and sometimes your experiences can be trying, but life is a bit that way also. The glorious times far outweigh the minimal discomfort you may experience sometimes.

You have just described all boat cruising! 😀 I think for most folks, the toughest part of a trip like this is having both partners commit to it, then shoving off. It is so easy to settle into the comfort of home... and not get to experience the excitement of "what's next?"

Years ago, we were visiting with a couple who had sailed their boat around the world (from my perspective, a much more intimidating adventure than the Great Loop). He had a degenerative muscle disease and was quite frail when I met them. They told me stories of all the places they visited. They asked about our trailerable boat. Even that was beyond what he could handle by that time. I asked him if there was anything they'd do different, and he said, "I wish we would have started sooner. We were in our late 50s when we left to sail around the world, and by that point, we were beyond that 'point of wonderment.' "

Keep that in mind as you make your cruising plans: get out there and enjoy the whole experience... it isn't about completing a circuit, it is about enjoying the journey.

Best wishes,
Jim

Jim and Lisa,
This is all your fault. I have been reading over and over your adventure on the great loop and it has planted the seed. My wife thinks I may be off my rocker ...

That's funny, Pete! I stumbled on Jim & Lisa's Great Loop adventure this past summer and also got hooked on the idea of doing it myself. In my case, my wife Marian is all in too, largely because of all the great photos that Lisa took and posted in their blog. I understand that Lisa's book, Women on Board Cruising, is a good read for women to find out if cruising is for them. Marian intends to get a copy so she can learn from those who have experienced the ups and downs of long distance cruising.

I'm now in my 70's, but when I was 30, I sold everything and headed south in my 26 ft sailboat for an adventure that still is in the front of my mind - and frankly I haven't been right since ! So don't wait too long.

Thank you for your kind words regarding our blog and Lisa's books. The Great Loop was a wonderful adventure that we learned a lot from, met wonderful people, many who will be friends for life. The Great Loop opened up an entire world of boating for us, all because of a chance encounter (for us) with a Seattle couple we met when they were doing the Loop.

For Ron B or anyone else who is interested in Lisa's books you can click on the attached link to learn more about the books and or the special gift giving price that's available.
