Six years ago at Christmas I lost my best boat buddy and only brother Kenny to a sudden pulmonary embolism. Since then My family and I have decided to literally realize a dream and a fitting tribute to his memory. We intend to acquire a cruiser to be named "The Kenneth Wayne". We will be at the Seattle boat show again this year. The "project" begins.

Very Nice.

I love the name and the reason behind it. Our boat is named after my mom who was very special and the TOO is because this is the second Nellie but the "TOO" means also not second.
Hope to see you at the Seattle Boat Show.

Thanks so much for the kind response. I am really looking forward to the show in Seattle and sharing our adventure with all the great folks here and at C-Brats. Please send comments to input@thekennethwayne.com. Web Site building is a new undertaking for me but I am energized by the support received so far. Happy new year to all.

This thread definitely sparks a lurking curiosity that all of us must have as to the meaning behind the names of our boats--like Allotrope, Equinox, and Seoul Survivor, just to name a few. Does boating tradition dictate that the meaning be discovered in any particular way or could that be a new thread?

I think the naming of a boat is a personal choice and just that the name means something to the owner, humorous, remembrance or otherwise.

Well I can surely relate to loosing a brother. I also lost my brother 2 years ago to the day from a pulmonary embolism. Naming a boat after you brother is a great tribute!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. Pulmonary embolism in my brothers case was caused by a condition that we had no clue he had, DVT or "deep vein thrombosis". One of the sysmtoms is a rash on the legs. He was being treated for the rash. Suffice to say that everyone should at least broach the subject with their doctor on their next visit. I wish you all the best for this new year. Thanks again. DW

Captain Wanabe has an interesting point about discovering the meaning behind our boat names. Since Tugnuts is more of a " family" than a generic boating website maybe having a thread dedicated to the history/ reason for our names would help us know one another better.

Nellie May was named after my maternal grandmother. She always encouraged me to "go out and do something" instead of sitting around. She was a force to be reckoned with - a true free spirit that did not conform to conventions. She was never in a real hurry, either, but seemed to always get the job done. She was a riveter on B-29 bombers in WWII; one day in the 60's, she heard something and ran outside. There was a B-29 flying over and she said that she would never forget that sound.

Naming the tug after her honors her in that it is somewhat unconventional, always sparks a conversation, but is also unconventionally elegant and sophisticated to those with capable of understanding...I think of Granny every time I take Nellie May out for a cruise.

Nice tribute to a brother and a friend. But I don't know if you mean the italicized above literally. If so, I suggest dropping "The". Boats are sometimes referred to as "the Something" but the real name should be without. Actually, we should not even refer to boats as "the Something" any more than we would refer to a person that way. ?"I saw the Jimmy Buffet last week."? People were not on The Golden Hind, The Victory, The Hornet, or The Enterprise. They were on Golden Hind, Victory, Hornet, or Enterprise. Just something to consider.
