Steve, Tina,
Where you guys been? Haven't seen anything from you for a while. Update all of us on your trip to the San Juans. Did you guys have a good time?

We have spent some time in the san carlos area and highly recommend it. Spent a few months off and on in the fall of 2008 getting to know the the town and the local waters. At the time we were in out 26' bayliner so we did not do major cruising but would travel 40 to 50 miles in a few directions. All I can say is it was some of the best boating we had ever done. We kept our boat down there for the winter and stored it out of the water in marina seca. That is part of marina san carlos. Everything is very safe. We live in Colorado so it was only a long days drive away to get out of the snow and go boating. The people there are the best and everyone looks out for you. You are treated like a local. There are lots of coves to spend the night and they also have great guest slips. If you give me your email I will send lots of pics.
We are getting our Ranger 29 in march of 2010 and do plan on going down there again. We feel the summer is way to hot so we like to go in the fall (Oct-Nov) water temp is still 80 and the fishing is great. The fishing is always great.
Now that we will have a boat that is more suited for cruising we will spend more time going accross to the Baja side. There is a great pig roast every saturday night in Mulege. That is only a 80 mile crossing from san carlos. We used to fly our cessna 182 in there so that is how we know about that. It is a cruisers paradise in the sea of cortez and we met so many wonderful people doing the same as us. We boaters all have one thing in common and that is we have adventurous spirits. So it is nice to meet like minded people.
The spring is very nice there also but we will not be going till next fall. I will tell you all that I know about the area and what you will need as far as paperwork if you want to talk on the phone sometime for I am not the best on a keyboard. I will give my email so anyone can email me for pics. royston@skywerx.com
Adios for now, Stuart

Stuart,
It Is against the Tugnut rules to use a phone to pass info back and forth or via p-mail when it comes to having fun and adventure with your Ranger. You must post your pictures and tell all about your trip and your future plans in this forum.

We use to go to Kino, which is at the south end of Tiberon Island. Great cruising ground. Lots of islands. The last couple trips in that direction were tp Rincon De Guayobitos (spelling). Best fishing I ever had. Boat launching was the biggest problem. Kino,it was necessary to pull the boat out every afternoon. No marina or place to anchor. No docks or protected water.Tractor would put you in and take you out. Rincon you had to anchor off shore and dink back and forth. I put out a mooring that came apart. Boat rode the surf into shore. Picture in the album. That was in the Hunky Dory days.

Wife got so sick on one trip she won't go down Mexico way again. Bahamas....here we come.

Oops I am new to this form and was not aware that I was already breaking the rules. I just have lots of info on going to Mexico and I do not type very fast or at least as fast as I think.
I have friends that have spent time in kino . That is really a place for the guys that like to fish. I know if you took your wife to San Carlos she would fall in love with it. We almost bought a house there and have many friends that do have homes there. We decided not to for it is really boating that I/we want to do when we are down there so why not get a boat that is even more comfortable then the one we had, (That should explane the the Ranger purchase. )
San carlos is a place we could not find a bad meal. It has over 15000 Americans living there and the local people love them. I could leave my nice truck unlocked when we were in a restaurant and it was safe. There is really for the most part no crime. It made us feel like we were in are small town here in Colorado where you never have to worry about crime. I just had a friend from Pagosa springs Co buy a house in san carlos. He could not even get his wife to barely get on the boat and now she is excited to live and boat there over the winter months. He is our Coast Guard Auxiliary here in the southwest. I have him looking at height restrictions for Ranger 29 people. It was not a issue with my last boat so I did not pay attention with all the time I drove Hwy 15 from Nogales to san carlos. It is a very nice four lane toll Hwy. The Mexican truck drivers are a bit scary for it is best to just let them go buy. There are some steep sholders that I would not want to drop a trailer tire off for it could be a problem. These are just a few things that i am working out now that we getting a wider and taller boat.
I have been looking at the option of putting in at rocky point which is just about 20 to 30 miles over the boarder from AZ. I have not been there so still need to look into safe storage for the truck and trailer. I know they have it but have not been there yet to see for myself. The other thing that I am still learning about is cruising around there and what protective coves and harbors that we can spend the first couple of days getting ready for cruising the sea of cortez. Anchoring there is tricky for they have 20' tides.
Again just want to say I am sorry for breaking the tugnutters rules and now i know better. If i can find the time maybe i will post all my info on Mexico.
Happy Boating, Stuart& Bridget

Hi All

I have been reading this topic with great intereset. Here is a web page that answers a lot of questions about the Sea of Cortez and Mexico travel.

http://www.vagabundos.com/index.html

I live in Calgary Alberta Canada and my parents winter in Yuma so this would be a logical place for us. We are waiting for the financial stars to align and we will be there and numerous other places with our own Ranger Tug.

Cheers, Leon

Yes Vagabundos is the right club to join. We have been a member for the last four years. It in a low membership fee. around $30.00 a year and they will guide and help with any Mexico needs. We also get our Mexican insurance through them. Good group rates. It is worth exploring there website in detail for they offer sooooo much.

Thanks Leon,

Stuart
