Throttle/shift control issue

My Ultralflex control has been steadily getting more difficult to move. Going from neutral to transmission engaged is OK, but adding a small amount of throttle is difficult. Once the throttle is engaged, it moves smoothly. It turns out, there is a detent ball that holds the lever in the "transmission engaged/throttle not engaged position". Getting past that detent is the problem. There is an adjustment on the clutch but that screw is all the way counter clockwise and in fact is loose within its holder. When I push the button to engage only the throttle, it moves real smoothly. I believe that's because the detent ball is not engaged. There seems to be plenty of grease.

Anybody have any suggestions? The only contact with Ultraflex is through email and that is to Italy - so I'm not holding my breath for a response.
