Through hull Transducer for C-24

Noticed a few months ago the Through Hull transducer located center of boat next to shower bilge pump. The actual transducer was knocked off of the tube seat and was flopping around.
Question: There is water or some kind of liquid in the tube itself. Is this supposed to be dry or should it be full of water??? I have reattached the transducer with the liquid in the tube. Should the transducer be sealed or is this type of attachment supposed to be removable?

There have been other posts regarding transducers that have been dislodged from their internal hull surface mount. It's my understanding there is a fluid medium that's part of an assembly that helps the transducer "see thru the hull".

I would call your Cutwater technical contact (or RT) directly, prepared with transducer model# and any pics of the area. If you're not getting feedback to your satisfaction, you can call Garmin @ 800.800.1020... request installation specs from them while you're at it.

My C242 has the same problem. I keep it filled with antifreeze and keep placing the transducer on top to restore proper sonar operation. I had Customer Service look at it while I was at the rendezvous and they determined that the base (the base holds the liquid) is broken and needs to be replaced. They didn't have a replacement part at Roche Harbor, so they just taped it together for now. Replacement of the base was added to my list of warranty repairs to one day be completed.

Hi,.

For your transducer to work properly, there must be a fluid medium. At the factory, we like to use RV antifreeze. This eliminates any issues that may occur if the boat is ever in freezing conditions. As previously mentioned, it is wise to monitor the area around the transducer for leaks. This is especially true around the mounting area. To remount the transducer, make sure the area is properly cleaned, add a bead of seal only where the transducer will make contact with the fiberglass, and press the transducer onto the seal. Wait to fill it until the seal has properly cured. We use Sikaflex 291. Feel free to send me an email if you have any questions.
