I have an R-31 CB (2018) and the remote thruster control won't work. I've replaced the batteries but it still won't run the thrusters. What am I missing? Does the remote control unit need to be programed somehow?

Not sure if you have the switch on the dash turned on for the remote. There is a switch along with the wiper switches that I believe says thruster. That switch needs to be on when using the remote. No need to turn it on when using the thruster joystick.
Hope that helps.

We have the same year 31 CB. As mentioned by someone else, there is a toggle switch to the right of the main helm that has to be in the on position to have the remote thruster to work. There is one more thing I would suggest you check. I replace the remote batteries every season and when you look at the interior of the remote to see which direction the batteries should face, you see a + sign. That made me assume that the battery should face + side down. I did that and the remote would not turn on. I reopened the remote and inserted the batteries with the + plus side facing up. It worked properly with no issues. I found the battery polarity sign inside the remote misleading into making me think that the positive had to be facing down, when in fact the positive has to be up. I hope this helps.

I'm also having trouble with the remote. It turns on but doesn't do anything so I guess it needs programming. Does anyone know where the receiver is on a Cutwater 26? I have looked all over but don't see it. I also do not see a switch at the helm just on the remote and the joysticks.

I have a 2013 C26. The switch is not labeled on my boat but it is either the far right switch on the right or second from right above the Volvo panel.

If there the accessory switch is on, there is one other thing to check with the remote. The circuit board inside the remote is very thin and flexible. Too flexible in my opinion. The screws holding the two halves together can easily be over tightened. If too tight the circuit card can warp and the circuit board will exhibit issues. This can happen after replacing the batteries. Backing off the screws can sometimes clear the problem. It did for me.

You may have lost pairing for the remote. You should have received a manual with the boat that covers the remote for the thrusters. It describes how to repair the remote. Access to the pairing button is underneath the thruster control panel at the helm.
