Wondering if anyone out there has been hit with this problem: Bow thruster shear pin broken, 2016 C28 with 290 hrs. The pin got worn somehow to the point where it broke. Here's a url for an image showing this wear on the central fragment of the pin:

Look or sound familiar? Any similar experience out there?

Thanks!!

I have a lot of experience with this... Basically something is not perfectly aligned. Can be as simple as the motor was not tightened in properly. On assembly check to make sure both surfaces are smooth, I found after many many pins and visits from the manufacture reps, complete disassembly of the thruster and gear leg by an approved tech.. ( thank you Ranger and Side Power ) that one of the inserts into the housing to accept the bolts was sticking out very slightly. I filed it down and it has been good ever since ( I am not boating as much so I say this with guarded optimism )

Here is the piece I filed down that I believe was not letting it sit flat.

I have the same model, same year and about the same hours. Both the bow and stern thrusters went out this summer. Both times while at the bait barge. For some reason my boat didn’t have the special Side Power tool so I had to fabricate one. Besides extra pins I picked up a snap ring pliars and a pin punch to make it easier next time.

I just purchased new and installed a thruster and the notch in the power shaft, also shown in the picture, was much larger than I thought it should be resulting in slop in the connection but I gotta say I really think Mist hit the nail on the head here.

I have an R31S, 2014 and had 3 bow thruster pins replaced before the bow thruster motor was reseated (at the factory expense). Have had no problems with the stern thruster. I believe that something was not aligned properly at the factory in manufacturing. Hope this helps
