Thruster Upgrade program

Would be interesting to see what the cost will be.

What I’d really like is more power out of my thruster. We have an R31 CB; even a light wind is too much of match for the thruster. Is there a way to improve the powers, ie, better prop maybe?
Just curious.

you would need a bigger thruster.

I agree, I have found that it takes very little wind to overpower the front thruster on my 27OB. I would love to have a more powerful thruster, but I am not in the mood to cut up the boat to install one.

Upgraded from the se30 to se40 bow thruster motor this past week. Did not upgrade stern thruster because I did not want to cut into the structure. Will post if the upgrade makes a difference or not.

From other posts it seems a lot of us will be interested in your experience with this upgrade. How difficult was it to swap out the units and at what cost?

I checked with Imtra rep at the Seattle boat show last week about the Side Power upgrade. The system is pretty cool and it would be a "nice to have" feature. It requires shipping the motors to for some minor mods, but it does require a new control box, cabling, and controller. The old wireless remote will still work, but only as on/off control.

The biggest problem is that it's $2000 per motor.

Sorry. I meant to post the motor change from the se30 to the se40 on Thruster change/upgrade. I did not complete the thruster upgrade program.

I exchanged motors, battery and fuse. Machanic stated wiring good. Only changed out bow thruster, did not want any cutting on boat structure to exchange stern thrusters. Total cost under $2000.00. Motor $1250 Imtra and 250 amp fuse and West Marine battery, total cost $2000.00.

I will post of any problems or if the added hp was worth the motor change.
