Subject: Today was fuel fill up and holding tank pump out

Today I wanted to prepare for my trip to Anacortes to join up with the 2nd Annual Roaming Rondy folk, featuring Chatterbox Falls in Princess Louisa Inlet, B.C.

I configure my full tank capacity as 145 gallons (even though I have a 150 gallon tank) to provide some emergency slack if my fuel level gets alarmingly low. My Garmin display was showing I had 41.3 gallons remaining. So carefully I pumped in some 105.075 gallons of diesel at $2.929/gal (I use my special marina's fuel card that means I've been trained to pump and for providing me with a $0.10 discount for each gallon I pump 😀) at which point it was clear to me the tank was full. I then indicated I had filled up with 104 gallons on the Garmin display. It alerted me this meant the 145 gallon tank capacity had been reached (I assume the Gamin software calculated 104 + 41.3 = 145.3 gallons) and did I want to set the fuel remaining to be 145 gallons. I accepted the 145 gallon number. Ain't software too smart for its boots ?

I then proceeded to pump out the holding tank that had not been pumped for close to 4 months. Before pumping while at my slip prior to going to the fuel dock I filled the toilet bowl to the rim with salt water and poured in 2 cups of bleach and flushed that down. Between this and starting the holding tank pump out some 30 mins had elapsed; giving time for the bleach to sanitized the toilet's output hose line to its tank and the holding tank proper. Before pumping out the holding tank I placed some 20 gallons of fresh water available at the fuel dock into the tank and then pumped out. Watching the sight glass the liquid was clear all the way to completing the pump out. I then poured in at least 40 gallons of more fresh water and pumped that out. Again, all the pumped out liquid was clear. I have to assume no one pooped into the toilet over past 4 months or that the sludge was resisting the pump out. No matter, all done IMO.

Boat is now ready for its next adventure. 😀
