How a bunch of kids on the boat today join my kids. They didn't know how to flush. When I tried to flush, the water shot out of the toilet like a geyser. Not a pretty situation.

Any idea on what's going on? Assume clogged but don't know where to start on this one!

Hello rocklobster,

Sounds like a clog to me. As long as it's TP and not Toys you should be able to flush. Also, wet wipes are bad news so hopefully those are in the toilet either. If there is enough water in the bowl and the TP is marine grade it should start to break down. You just have to wait it out before you try and flush again. You can use a plunger but make sure you hit the flush button then use the plunger quickly. When the toilet stops flush stop using the plunger. The plunger would be my last option before taking the toilet apart to clear the clog.

Good luck!

Sometimes it's good to ask a second time! I just learned that adult guest flushed a tampon down the toilet. She didn't know and though it was like a normal toilet.

Given that it's a tampon, should I still try to flush it down?

What's the best approach for stuck tampons?

Unfortunately flushing is a bad idea if you know there are non biodegradable objects in the bowl. I personally would use a shop vac suck it out and then resume normal operation. However to be safe you may want to manually suck the entirety of the contents out using a wand attachment on the suction hose of the pump out station. If a tampon has been flushed it will cause problems for your discharge pump we’re you to use that before it has been extracted I do not have a ranger tug still waiting on mines arrival. So I can’t help more than that.

I would think you could create a decent seal using the pump out connection at the toilet bowl. If you can I would do it once. Then pour several gallons of water in and do it again. Perhaps a third time.
Cannot imagine you are the first one to run into this situation.

I had a TP clog in my RV which caused a similar situation. Since I knew it was TP I forced it down. Would not do that in this situation.

Good news. I was able to remove most of the waste/water using a turkey baster and pre-sanitizing with chlorine. Thankfully the tampon was stuck at the bottom of the bowl and I was able to fish it out. Could have been much worst!

Great.
Take a picture of turkey baster in trash or you might not have many at the table come thanksgiving.

You know, we "yachters" are considered a pretty refined, sophisticated group. But picturing our friend, elbows deep in his toilet, sucking out a used tampon with a turkey baster puts a little tarnish on that image!

This was a good read. I lol’d. I had to fish out a used poop covered wet wipe once and it really bummed me out. Not sure what’s worse, poop or blood.
