I just picked up my new R-27 OB and love it. The toilet has never been used (at least by us and its a new boat) and the toilet flushed smoothly during orientation. We cruised across the bay (26 miles) and she handled beautifully, but when I checked out the head, i noted that water was everywhere and the toilet was completely full. I can only assume this isn't supposed to happen. Anyone else notice this and is it a simple fix? Thanks so much

Was the handled turned to the lock position? If not, you should try that as a fix.

Thanks for your help. The toilet is electric and there is no knob. I’ve taken the boat out twice and both times the bowl was empty prior to the trip and filled / overflowed while underway. I’ve never had an all electric toilet before and I’m not sure if I can turn it off or if this is a drainage issue. It’s never been used so I doubt it’s clogged. But I guess the holding tank could be a problem. I’ll call the service manager, but was hoping I was just doing something wrong. Thanks

There is a rubber check valve called a joker valve. Located just after the macerated pump. It is supposed to stop back flow. Perhaps yours is not seated correctly.

I'm not familiar with the install in your boat but it could be as Connerkip has suggested the joker valve has some debris in it or is damaged. If this is the case the water in the bowl would be waste water that was sitting in the waste line. If it appears that is what it is flush your head several times to get clean water through out the line before inspecting the joker valve( I would close off thru hull seacock and pour fresh water in the bowl and continue flushing until you feel all the water in the waste line is clean fresh water). The other possibility is water is being forced in thru the thru hull that the head is getting its raw water from. While running water is forced into the raw water supply line and slowly fills the bowl. An easy check for this is before leaving the dock close the thru hull seacock inspect water level in the head, take a cruise .See if water level increased in the bowl. If it did back to the Joker valve.

Hello,

I would agree that the best place to start would be to close the green handled seawater pick-up valve and see if the problem persists. If the water continues to rise with the seawater valve closed, most likely it is an issue with the joker valve allowing water to re-enter the bowl from the holding tank. As stated by others, it could be some debris stuck in the valve not allowing it to seat properly. You might try flushing several times to see if this clears the debris.

Please feel free to shoot us a call anytime in the office at (253) 839-5213.

Thank you,

Tim

I would bet it is the pick up overflowing and not the chooker as it is new and tank is empty. I hooked my toilet to fresh water flush and when ever I overfill the water tank the bowl is full to the top.
Hoping it is easy
Good luck

I'm not sure that your system is working right. The connection from your fresh water tank and the head should have a shut off valve operated by a solenoid. It should only get water from the pressure side from the tank. High water in your freshwater tank should not effect water level in the head bowl. If you meant that when your waste tank is over full your bowl fills then your joker valve may be leaking by.

I have a 2018 R-27 OB and had the same problem. The raw water pick up is designed to provide positive pressure to the generator when you are cruising at higher speeds. The toilet also gets raw water from the same system. Cruising at 20+knots creates enough pressure to over flow toilet. I fixed the problem with a shut off valve on just the toilet raw water. Not very convenient but it works. In my opinion Ranger tugs need to come up with a fix. 🙂

FYI...I also have the 2018 R-27/OB but without A/C. I travel at high speed (over 20 mph) and so far have not had the toilet water fill up and overflow.

Does your generator 'suck' the raw water in or does it simply rely on the water pressure generated ? I presume it must 'suck' the raw water in otherwise no water would get to the generator when the boat is stationary.

Hi Brian
I installed a bypass so I can choose between fresh and sea water. System is working fine, just when the water tank is over full, the fresh water fills up the bowel. There are a couple of check valves I installed but they work the other way 🙂 Works perfect and with using fresh water from the water tank little to no oder.

Thanks to all the responses. Really appreciate it. I’ll update everyone as soon as I can get back out. I picked her up on Saturday and now we are getting hit with snow. Thought I would be safe, but one never knows in DC.
