I understand that the Ranger 27 is legal to tow and that the 29 is legal with special permits. How difficult is it to get the permits and how much are they? Also is the permit all you need or are there other requirements? Do many people who own the 29 even bother with towing it?

Thanks in advance,

Gary Harkins

You'll probably get some great answers from the community, but you can get a head start by searching on terms like: tow permits

There are five pages of posts comprised of several informative threads.

Gary:

I agree with Bruce - do a search and you will find lots of info on this topic.

I have a 2018 R29 Sedan and wrestled with this question a lot. Now a year later, I wasted lots of time on a fairly simple process. It took some time initially to become familiar with how states issue their permits. We live in New Jersey so I am most familiar with their system. The permit costs around $26 which I get on-line. You also need 2 wide load banners and some flags.

The boat tows like a dream but...…...make sure you have the right tow vehicle and equipment. We tow with a Ram 2500 diesel with no problems.

If an R29 is right for you, go for it. The permit process is minor!!!!

The tow vehicle isn't a problem. I have a Dodge 3500 dually with a 6.7 Cummins diesel tow rated at 31200 pounds. My main concern is the hassle of getting permits for every state (29) or not having to worry about it (27).

Before I went from a R25 to an R29 I researched the 5 or so western states I tow in. Permits run under $100 for each state, are good for 12 months from purchase, only need a wide load banner on the rear.

All five of the states have a wide load category which the R29 fits into and it's is easier and less expensive than the oversize load category so you might keep an eye out for that.
