Towing the R31

Another thought on the duly verses single topic. Using the truck when you are not towing.

I live in the Hudson valley a bit north of NY City. We have several roads that are designated "FOR PASSENGER VEHICLES ONLY", which includes small pickups of 6500 gvw or less. Although my Dodge 3500, 10,100 gvw is not legal on these roads, I drive on them all the time without problems. My friends with the dulies all get tickets and escorted off the roads. I also ordered my truck without cab roof lights. That way at night I don't advertise that I am a truck coming down the road. Don't know if that will influence your decision but it may be something to consider.

Man, that brought back memories... we lived for a bit in north eastern NJ, had a boss who just had to have a BIG TRUCK (draw your own sterotypical conclusions and you'd be right). He got ticketed at least once a year making runs up the PIP. Then there was the time he go caught with a gun in the vehicle, NY State police do not mess around!

I would lean toward the 4 X 4 duals if you are doing anything more than local launches. You won't regret it. I have the C 28 with a 4 X 4 1 ton on singles and every time we hitch up I wish I had the extra stability and braking.

Mine came with the rear camera... Does that ever help🙂 also I was told I was going to need an additional piece for the trailer brake controller because were electric over hydraulic . the new dodge has a selector that comes up on the screen that let's you select type of brake and light or heavy load ..

I have the Dodge 3500 4X4. Mine works fine with the electric over hydraulic without any adaptors. I keep it set for the heavy trailer. Does not appear to change much in the GO department but the computer is much more aggressive with the exhaust break and downshifting to help hold the load back going downhill.

As for the camera, it does not help much backing up a trailer but is real nice when hooking up a trailer. I wish I could shut it off once the trailer is connected. I also tow a big white box trailer and when you try to back up at night the camera and backup lights create a bright white light on the dash that you can not dim or turn off. This makes it hard to see right side mirror. I keep a rag handy in the truck and hang it over the screen when I am backing up. Not as much a problem with my boat but I have the dark green hull.

I'm pretty sure on mine there was an option to turn the camera off. will check when I get back to it. would be a pain for sure with the reflection. Other option would be to cover the camera when you have the white trailer connected. May be a piece of tape.
