Towing tip

This may or may not be something you know or do when towing the Tug. Just read it in my Marina's Newsletter today... so thought I'd pass it along even though I do not trailer our R-25.

Wipe your boat down with liquid soap before a long haul to make bugs and grit easy to remove once you arrive. 😱

What happens if it rains along the way? That could be a very funny sight going down the highway. :lol: probably a reapplication would be required. Oddly enough, my radar dome seems to get it the worst.

I started doing that 14 years ago, when we towed our Corsair sailing trimaran - the akas (beams) stood straight up, almost 11' when on the trailer. Those vertical beams really got "bugged up." The liquid soap does make it easier to just hose the bugs off when you get to your destination. (tip from the Corsair owners group at the time)

No, it didn't suds up when driving through rain... but, you did need to reapply.

I tried that on the front cap of our high profile 5th wheel, using Dawn dishwashing soap, and it took the wax off.

My conclusion with all this: manufacturers should make colored gelcoat and paint from bug guts - that stuff really sticks! 😉
