Hello Ranger Tugs:

I am curious about the R29S and the R31S models. I own a Ford F250 6.7 liter diesel (2011). It is rated for GCVW of 23500 plus it is rated for 14,000 pounds towing. Can you tell me what the dry weight is for the 29S and 31S, trailer included? Thank you.

Tom

You need to add fuel and gear to dry weights listed and about 2000 lbs for the trailer I think you will find you will be right at that max if not a bit over. I know with my 29 Im around 15000 lbs boat and trailer

Check the threads Tom. The latest was "diesel truck shout out". There are many would NOT pull a 29 or a 31 without 4 wheel drive and duals. Three quarter ton is marginal.

Although the truck itself has a towing weight rating of 14,000 lbs., the hitch itself has a sticker that lists the weight rating for conventional towing, which is much less than the max rated figure, which usually requires a weight distribution hitch.

Check the underside of the hitch itself for a sticker that list the rating.

Ford 2011 towing guide from Ford on page 29 lists the weight ratings for the stock Ford hitches.

We ended up going to an aftermarket hitch shop to get a hitch that would handle the conventional towing weight for our R-27.

good luck!

My Cutwater 28 ready for boating weights in at close to 11,000 lbs so do not use empty weights from the factory! Very few of us offload boating and living gear for the trailer portion of the trip, let alone pump out the fuel tank etc. I'd be looking real close at minimum 1 Ton dually diesel 4 X 4's with an exhaust brake and a skukum hitch for anything bigger than my boat.

I have to ask... what is a skukum hitch ?

That's Canadian for boss or really really chunky and tough.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Very helpful. My truck is a 4 x 4. I looked up again in the towing guide (thanks for the link) and it shows 14000 pound trailer weight. I looked on my hitch (factory Ford) and it shows with a weight distributing hitch a maximum of 16000 pounds with 1600 pound tongue weight. I assume the weight rating would be the lesser of the two. This truck tows my current boat, a 26 foot Chaparral Express cruiser type boat ( 9000 pounds with trailer) , like there is nothing back there. Plus, with the Ford factory equipped sway control it is very comfortable to tow. I was thinking of a bigger boat ...... grin. It seems like I always have a slightly smaller towing vehicle than I need for the bigger boat! Thanks all, I am new to this forum but like the look and capability of the Ranger Tugs. I assume all of you really like your boats!?
