Trailer and courtesy lights

How can I replace the trailer and courtesy lights? Do the lighting units need to be "peeled off" and replaced, or can the led lights be changed? It appears that each side of the light has a removable plastic piece, but I have not tried to remove them.

I have two or three boat trailering lights that do not work when the boat wiring harness is connected to my tow vehicle. I’ve not found a way to access the screws to remove the lights. I’ve been told there is a cover on the lights that can be removed to access the screws. I’ve tried to pry this cover off but so far unsuccessfully. I just don’t hook up the wiring harness when I tow.

Hardyparty, if you check with the parts department as to the lights used on your boat (model and year) then do a little research as to how they were installed you will have a answer for removal and a good replacement information. On my boat which is a 2009, running lights for the trailer has two screws no cover. Wish I could be more help. Bob

Hi hartyparty,

The screws are under the little plastic covers at each end of the light. You can pop those covers off and you'll see the screws. The lights can then be removed and you have access to the wiring for removal or diagnosis. Hope this helps.

I can't figure out how to pop off the end caps. They are flush with the light. I have tried a small screw driver and box cutter, but all that I am doing is damaging the surface.

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who hasn’t been able to pop off the end covers. I’ve given up trying to find a way to get to the screws. Let me know if you’re successful and how you did it. Thanks

I have used a utility knife. You have to slide the blade between the cover and the wall and then a little twist and outward pressure and it should pop off.

This is the reply I received from the Fluid Motion parts department:

"For the most part the covers will get damaged but when you order a new ones they come with the screw covers"

... so it appears that it is difficult to remove the covers without damaging them. The new lights cost $13.43 a piece.

On my R-23 there’s a difference between the trailering lights mounted on the boat that only work off the trailer wiring harness in the bow anchor locker and the courtesy lights located in the cockpit and on the swim platform. I’ve been able to access and change out the courtesy lights but have given up trying to remove the boat trailering lights.
