Trailer Tires

Do any of you have experience with Towmax trailer tires? If so, is your impression good, bad or indifferent?

Trailer tires have been discussed extensively in other threads. I think it can be summarized as trailer tire quality is generally awful. The one brand that stands out is Goodyear Endurance. They are expensive but people have had excellent experience with them. If you buy anything else plan on getting new tires every three years no matter what they look like or how far they have gone.

Having four decades of towing travel trailers, boat trailers, cargo trailers, utility trailers, etc. etc. my belief is that there are really, really bad trailer tires and other brands that are just really bad. Have owned a number of different brands (15-20 or so) including the PowerKing Towmax. I have had many, many blowouts over the years!
So far the one exception seems to be the Goodyear Endurance tires. I have about 6,000 miles on my Endurance tires so far and they are holding up very well. I have also used the Maxxis M8008 brand on a cargo trailer with fair results - they just wore out pretty fast.

I specified Goodyear Endurance tires on our R29S's custom built trailer last year. When I purchased a spare for our travel trailer I again specified Goodyear Endurance and will upgrade the four on the ground shortly. No one, including the trailer manufacturer's owner, my dealers, or anyone in the Service departments or the tire stores I have dealt with has ever questioned why I would specify those tires. (The former version of this tire was the Goodyear Marathon and it too had a long history of being recommended.) (The only trailer tire I have had fail in what seemed to be premature given their care and indoor storage was a less expensive trailer tire made in China. Lucky for us I discovered the failure before it blew on the highway.)

Just to add, a fellow Tugger had/has Endurance and had a premature blowout. Goodyear not only made good on the tire, but replaced all four and repaired the fender. They wanted the tires back for examination. Seems like they are pretty serious about the quality of the product.

Goodyear Endurance is the only way to go. We have them on all three of our trailers and couldn’t be happier. A word of caution, check the date code before they are installed. I ordered four for our Airstream last December from Discount Tires and told the salesman if the tires were more than six months old I didn’t want them, good thing I looked at them because two were over a year old! I will generally replace them in the 5-6 year range and haven’t had any issues with them by doing that.

My brother works for a company that produces automotive car parts. He supervises R&D and one thing he does every Monday morning is to review recalls. He sees all current recalls and the 2 items that seem to be prevalent are campers and tires, especially when it comes to trailer tires. He says it makes it hard for him to trust any trailer tire because recalls are so prevalent. Recalls are irreverent when you are sitting in the ditch next to the road. If everyone is having good experiences with the Endurance tires, then I say use those. I know I will.
