Trailer Winch for 2014 R27

So my strap failed yesterday while my boat was sitting on the trailer right after pull out and tightened down in preparation for the Tug Bump. The winch that came with the integrity trailer Looks like a Dutton-Laison 1,800 lb capacity, which seems very low for an R27. Should I upgrade the winch before buying another 2" x 15' strap?

Most D-L 2-speed winches go from 600 to 3200 LB capacity, + or -. If it is a 2-speed winch and if it is not rusted, IMO the strap replacement should be OK. Almost all 2" straps are rated for 10,000 lbs. or more "breaking strength". Working strength should be 30 to 50 % of that which still exceeds the working strength of the winch and is the approximate strength of most bow eyes. If the strap broke at the ramp, you were lucky. If you have ever seen a trailered boat fly, you can appreciate that. For what it is worth, I only snug the strap before the "Tug Bump". It won't make much difference if it is not super tight, and you may avoid other issues with the trailer winch mast. Also, sunlight will degrade a winch strap, and this will not always be visible damage. I change my strap every 3 or 4 years because of that, and it is stored inside most of the time.
