Has anyone trailered to Puerto Vallarta? I have a Ranger 29 that I'm considering trailering there this winter if the roads are "reasonable" to transit. The 29 needs a wide load permit so I'd also like any info on that if possible.
thanks in advance,
Carl

You are brave. Direct route from your city to Puerto Vallarta would be over 2,200 miles. We used to travel in Mexico with our motorhome, but haven't done so for the last decade+, due to safety concerns. Our coach was a diesel pusher, 40' long, 8.5' wide, plus a tow car... there were plenty of roads that were uncomfortably narrow with that rig. I have no idea what it takes to legally haul a wide load in Mexico, but the thought of it makes my hind-end pucker.

You night contact someone from the Vagabundos del Mar, an RV, boat, and travel club...

Good luck with the plans.

I agree, you are a very brave man! My mapping software showed the best route at 2,550 miles each way.
Have you checked both auto and boat insurance in Mexico? My current policies with State Farm (auto) and Travelers (boat) exclude coverage in Mexico.
My concerns would be for narrow roads and poor road maintenance in Mexico. Have you considered putting in further north, either on the mainland or from La Paz, Baja California Sur, and then cruising down to Puerto Vallarta. Slower for sure but perhaps a less stressful journey.

What about the sea of Cortez? It is a short hop from AZ and looks like it would be a great area to explore.

There was a sea of cortez post early this summer...might search it.

Worked and traveled in Mexico since 1991. Be prepared to get shook down by officials, especially Law Enforcement. And...remember, throwing a fit or even simple argument makes things worse, especially the cost...Mexico is different...very different. I love it...

Sea of Cortez Baja MX winter 2020

I say go for it!, sounds like an adventure, lol! Yolo. Consider a visit to Sayulita just north of there.

I would cross at Nogales and take 15D to Tepic MX. 15D is mostly 4 lane with some tolls. When you get to Tepic stay there for the night and leave at first light for La Cruz (90 miles) this part is 2 lane and windy. I would put in at La Cruz so you don’t have to go right into PV with a wide load. Unless of course you have a specific reason to. We spend time in Bucerias and see lots of boats wintering on the hook just outside of La Cruz marina. MX insurance you will need but many people do it so it can’t be that hard. As for a wide load in MX do some research it’s got to be doable it’s Mexico. I think with some planning and common cents this would be an awesome adventure. This is all just my 2 cents worth. But if you do go let us know on here how it all went.

Based on what happened today and what occurred on October 17th in Culiacan (which is on route you are considering) going to Puerto Vallarta. Very sad and scary what is happening in Mexico....

While on a scuba diving trip to the Sea of Cortez 15 years ago, yes we drove in from San Diego, we were stopped multiple times by various officials carrying M16s but the tragedy was two local motel owners we knew were gunned down in a daylight robbery while they drove to San Quintin for provisions. This was the week following our visit. Haven’t been back to Mexico since. Too many other places to see with far fewer problems. Good luck.

go to Florida
