Transducer fell off!

Lost my depth sounder readings while bouncing around out in Possession Sound yesterday... didn't think much about it until I noticed I had no depth reading while moored back in my slip.

A quick check in the bilge found that the transducer was no longer attached to the hull, and just sitting beside the bilge pump. An interesting red liquid I'd not seen before also in the bilge....

Any thoughts on what the proper repair routine here is?

RV antifreeze. That is the fluid used in the transducer cup.

Once you reinstall the transducer you can use Propylene Glycol ( RV antifreeze as the barrier fluid)

I'm pulling back the garmin installation notes, but tips on adhesives, cleaning and application, as well as orientation would be appreciated....

Also, well dangit, while it's off, are there other internally mounted transducers I should look at upgrade wise?

Mine came off, too. I cleaned the hull where the cup was installed by getting all the sealant off, roughing up the hull and cleaning. I also cleaned the cup. I believe Garmin says to use a silicone sealant to adhere but I glued it down with 5200. Once cured, fill with antifreeze and put cap back on.

The best transducer for fishing would be through hull. You’d need to cut a hole in the bottom.

Some boats had the transducer glued directly to the hull and many released. Others had the cup installed and it leaked and lost fluid. I suggest getting the cup, thoroughly clean the surface, wipe with acetone, install per instructions. Once adhesive is cured, fill cup , install transducer per directions and you should be golden. I hope you like working upside down. 😀

Be careful on your choice of 5200. That is pretty darn permanent and should anything happen to the cup holder good luck trying to get it off. If you properly clean and prepare the mating surfaces, I suspect the silicone recommended by Garmin would be sufficient. HTH, Gary

Looks like GE silicon II or Supreme for me.

Alas, they want a 65F curing temp. Let's see if I can boil the ocean here.
