I have a 2019 R29S (#30) and I can’t find the transducer. A technician and I have looked in the aft cockpit locker, under the aft end of the quarter berth and in the area around the shower sump. No luck. There is a transducer and it works but where is it hidden? I might need to top up its fluid at some point.

Hi!

Check around where the hot water tank is located. Feel free to send me an email if you have any more questions.

Thanks!

On our R29S it is located in the locker at the transom on the port side of the rudder post. We have a generator and the depth sounder is located where I indicated n behind n below it. Hope this helps.

Hi John,

We had moved the transducer to the forward portion of the STRBD locker area up by the battery in that compartment. There should be a plastic cover screwed to the floor and once removed you will be able to access the transducer, it is a tight spot so be sure to remove all items to access this. Hope this helps!!

Thank you,
Kevin Lamont

Yes, as Kevin has indicated... RT did move the transducer in later R29 builds because they said it gave better and more accurate information and on my 2019 R29 CB NW Edition the transducer is located directly on the hull and directly under the cockpit storage locker(s) adjacent to the starboard side cabin wall. I captured this when I visited the Monroe factory as my R29 was being assembled.

It's not easily accessed and there's a hole in the base of the storage locker (mentioned above) that provides a straight line view to the transducer. Maintenance for this transducer will likely be a real PITA. In my case, the hole is not plugged as mentioned by Kevin and I have to take care nothing falls through the hole; I have plugged it with a soft rag to avoid things falling down the hole.

My guess is that unless you have a very very skinny arm with cameras in its finger tips you will have no success in dealing with any transducer maintenance. In my case, I suspect I would have to open up the hole to be bigger so access to the transducer is more manageable. If my transducer does fail within my new boat warranty, I'll be having RT do the transducer maintenance for sure. 😉

Note: The only way to view the transducer is to clear out all the stuff in the cockpit's starboard double stacked storage lockers up against the cabin wall (this is where the cockpit rear helm is located on/in the double stacked storage lockers or the sink option is located in same location). Then stick your head as best you can into the lower or upper storage locker and peer down through the hole; a mirror on a stick could be used for this I suppose as an alternative.

I really hope I never have to do transducer maintenance on my boat outside of its factory warranty period.

Thanks Kevin and Baz. I appreciate the followup on this issue. I’m just back from a very pleasant cruise and will have a look in the next day or so. As Baz suggests, that’s not an easy spot to get to.

Baz, what number is your 29 hull? Ours is hull no. 30. I gather that the location of the transducer for 2019 R29s migrated from one place to another as the location providing the best performance was sought.

Same issue. 2011 may be reversed from newer R29 s?

Found the transducer right where Kevin and Baz said it was. Actually, to be honest, I can see the transducer but there is no chance that I can reach it to top up the fluid if required. It is in an oval hole in the locker floor hidden behind the the Flojet toilet pump and the thruster battery. I’m skinny but tall so I can’t fold myself into the locker and even if I could, it would be very difficult to get over the hole without moving at least the Flojet pump. Suggestions welcome if anyone has successfully worked on it.

Call RT (Kevin, maybe). Your boat is under warranty.
