To my knowledge all Tugs and Cutwaters are equipped only with traditional transducers. Garmin offers additional transducers that greatly increase your ability to see what is below. I added Garmin's GT40-TM transducer. This transducer added Clear View (very good detail of the bottom showing fish and structures), Side View (very good detail of what is outside of the boat's path), Traditional View, and water temperature. You can even switch between the old traditional view and new. The new transducer mounts on the transom and installation is not difficult. I have the 7612 chart plotter that I had upgraded to enable auto guidance, so when I plugged in the new transducer lead, everything worked.

I am about a month away from picking up my new C28 (probably one of the very last of the D4's produced) in about a month. I also want water temp, Clear View and Side View for fishing at low speeds and have been researching transducers. Can you provide details on your installation and mounting location? How did you route the cable? Thanks for the information.

Garmin offers several transducer upgrades. I chose the GT40-TM, about $250. The installation is not difficult, under two hours. The wire can be routed hidden all the way to the back of the chart plotter with easy access from the head. The GT40 has a 12 pin plug. The one that comes with the boat has an 8 pin plug. The chart plotter has both receptacles. It is plug and play. Have you asked Cutwater or your dealer to install the unit.

Gypsy, according to the Garmin transducer selection guide, it states that the transom mounted GT 40-TM, is not recommended for vessels with inboard engines and not recommended for vessels with a stepped hull!
I hope it works for you but don't be disappointed if you don't get 100% performance due to the type of boat that you have. Best of luck. Bob

Thanks again for the info Bill. Regarding stepped hulls and inboard engines, those of us fishermen are looking for improved sonar for that and operate at such slow speeds when fishing that turbulence from the hull and prop are minimal. We have the thru hull transducer to use when we are at higher speeds. Essentially the best of both worlds.

I mounted one on the transom of my C28 D4. Turbulence created by the Prop current ripped it off at speed.

Now have another one mounted off the side of the boat at the stern corner right next to the chine. There is even water flow at that location. This has worked great at speeds to 10 knots.
