Just leaving Florida after 4 great days at Trawler Fest/Stuart. Came early for the two-day diesel training provided by Nigel Calder and Steve Zimmerman. The course, which lasted two full days, was excellent and it filled up weeks ago. There was a lot of ground covered. While Calder's books are excellent, it is great to be able to ask questions and talk with him about boat-specific issues. The course covers about everything you need to know about today's diesel engines including maintenance we can do ourselves and trouble shooting. Topics went well beyond just the engine to cover electrical operations, batteries, etc. Well worth the investment!
One presenter during the course was Craig Parkhurst, President of Wheel House Technologies -- https://www.wheelhousetech.com. His presentation was impressive and the services they make available to boat owners resembles what we are accustomed to in aviation. I know the topic has been discussed and some have questioned value. But, as a new owner, I am signing up for sure. I mention this, because the more Ranger Tugs they have (and they say they have quite a few) the more knowledge they can gain and share with clients.
I have no connection with the company (other than being a client). But hope people will take a look.
The boat show did include a couple of Ranger Tugs and at least one Cutwater vessel.
The show lasts through Sunday with very informative seminars Friday - Sunday if you are in the area....
