Trawler in a Sailing dominated Marina?

I think there is way more potential to upset someone by being a live-aboard rather than the type of boat you own. The simple reason is that you are physically there vastly more often and, hence, someone might not like a particular behavior. Some of the things that I really dislike are: smoking (I can smell it 200 yards away and prefer fresh clean ocean air); filthy unkept boats (my harbor has a few of those); loud music (not following noise regulations), and oh, the folks who talk, almost scream, so loud that you are hearing them all across the harbor. Those are things that I find personally disturbing and most people will have their own list, that may differ considerably. Boat types are more like pet peeves. For example, I find hydraulic boat lifts to be ugly and would like to ban them, but, a lot of folks really like them. OTOH, sailboats are no concern unless they can't keep their sheets properly secured and I often see in high winds.

Having been a three time sailboat owner (Tanzer, ComPac and O'Day) and a two time Ranger Tug owner (R21EC and currently R27 inboard Classic), I think marina mates who have experienced both sail and power boating should be the best marina neighbors. I can't help but remember comments I received while attending the Annapolis Sailboat Show, which was confirmed a few years later while attending the Annapolis Power Boat Show. When cooling off at one of the friendly Annapolis bars on the inner harbor I asked the bartender whether he saw a difference between attendees at the Sailboat Show vs the Power Boat Show? His answer was based upon what he observed from patrons who had not attended both shows. He noted that the Sail Boat Show patrons rarely discussed boat prices which were typically not posted, and they often ordered Martinis, Tom Collins or wine. The Power Boat Snow patrons got into heated debates about prices and often ordered beer or shots of bourbon. Being one who at my age (80) prefers Ranger Tugs I still prefer martinis. Just an FYI on my part.
