Hi Guys,

I have a 2013 Cutwater 28. The hydraulic rams for the Bennet trim tabs are broken. No idea how that happened. Anyway Bennet guys tell me its a straightforward repair. I can unscrew the ram at the actuator hinge and replace with a new one. Just two machine screws at the bottom trim tab plate.

They had one question. They didn't know if its a standard RAM or a shorter one. Can you tell me what RAM was used?

My hull number is FMLC2807F213 if that helps.

Thanks,

I saw this question yesterday asked to factory and saw this morning it wasn't covered so I'm posting my thoughts on it.
My 2016 C26 which is the same as the C28 ram used in 2016 is the standard long. 13 3/4 with 2.5" stroke. The short is 11 3/4, 2.5" stroke. It is the measured length of the assembly. Very easy to verify. If fluid motion installed the 11 3/4" on your boat it could be the wrong cylinder. I believe this happened a few times. I would replace regardless with the long. The C26 and C28 require all the trim you can get. (my opinion) I made a stainless steel shim to increase the length of the 13 3/4 ram, along with drop fins ( worked well ) to help bring the bow down.

A hard backdown with trim tabs deployed in the down position can cause the ram to fracture. An impact to the tabs is most common cause of ram failure.

Thanks Brian. Sounds spot on to me, I'm going to try the long.
