Does anyone use the trim tabs on a R-31 or 29?
I find little or no effect on my R-31CB.
Other boat tabs made difference in attitude and RPM.

I would check if there is any movement while at the dock. I find it would be nice to have from of position indicator to verify operation. Don't like the blind operation or assume end position after running in one direction

Absolutely. Once we're above hull speed, based on kph and sea conditions, we use them routinely. In good conditions proper trim often results in improved efficiency. In rougher conditions, it results in a more comfortable ride.

You can install those as an option.

Yes, I do use the trim tabs on my R-31. When running at speed, I adjust the trim tabs for fuel economy. In addition, they are useful for correcting any listing (from extra passengers, etc) when at speed.

I just bring them back up for my normal operating speed ....

I agree with stwendl. Check to make sure the trim tabs are working. On our R-29, the tabs make a big difference at any speed over about 10 knots.

We have an R31 and they are used all the time at 10+ knots. It really makes a difference for our travels.

If you don't see motion when checking the trim tabs at the dock, check the fuse and the hydraulic fluid level in the reservoir. I had one of ny trim tab switches stick in the down position, which overheated the solenoid valve, partially melted the plastic reservoir, and blew the fuse.

My tabs take 5 seconds to extend and 8 to retract although I imagine this might change under way, slower down faster up? I use one to take the tilt out and then both in one second actuations looking for a RPM increase. It does seem to take longer for effects to occur than you would think.

The trim tabs are on a dedicated circuit (DC panel). Make sure the circuit breaker is on. If you are like us, we do not power on all circuit breakers, only the accessories we need to use. We have forgotten to do this on occasion and the results are as you describe for obvious reasons. Same with our spot light.
