We are on the hard. Trim Tabs on on the DC panel. Resoviour seems to be full. There is no reaction with the switches in either position. Is there something else I should do?

Are your battery switches on?

The battery switches are on and all the DC lights etc. are working. There trim tab manual says the is a 20 amp fuse somewhere. I didn't drag out the R29 manual when we were on the boat will check now that we're home.

I din't notice the extra we on the end of Tabs, I was in bright sunshine and my eyes don't work like they use to.

My 29 Classic has a switch on the panel just for the trim tabs. I've had to run back to turn it on a few times!

Leon,

Had that switch on. From the R29 manual it shows a 20 amp fuse, which could be the rocker switch. The Bennett manual shows a 20 amp in line fuse coming off of the Rocker Switch Control. Has anyone pulled the control and is there a fuse there.

They were working (at least I thought they were) at the end of the season. Just wanted to do some time measurement with the boat out of the water, but it's a boat.

I had a similar issue. In my case the “Bow Down” side of the rocker switches worked but nothing happened when I tried to retract the tabs again. No hydraulic pump noise, nothing. Fuse was fine, plenty of fluid, etc. Turned out that that there was an intermittent connection where the cables plug together near the reservoir. Cleaned the contacts, used some dielectric grease, and they are working fine now.

You may also want to check the connections on the underside of the switch. Pop the cover off and remove the 4 outer screws. It should pop right out.

When I get to the boat this weekend that's my next step . Bennett says there should be an inline 20Amp fuse on the orange lead.

The switch unit comes with an orange lead and in-line fuse. I believe this lead is abandoned and the switch is wired directly to the rocker switch/breaker. I would jump out your connections at the switch and then if no joy work back to the connections at the unit. Below are the jumper connections at the switches.
orange ( + ), blue, red Port trim tab down
orange ( + ), blue, green Starboard trim tab down
orange ( + ), blue, red, green Both trim tabs down
orange ( + ), yellow, red Port trim tab up
orange ( + ), yellow, green Starboard trim tab up

Thanks. That will make troubleshooting easier. The boat is suppose to launch tomorrow and I hope to get to it this weekend.

Any chance you had the engine hatch open while trying the trim tabs? The hydraulic rams for both operate off the same system. If the hatch is open it can result in insufficient pressure to operate the tabs...and vice-versa.

The hatch was closed. On our 2010 R29 the engine hatch is electric.

Pulled the rocker switch off checked all the connections and the trim tabs are now working. It's a boat. Nothing seemed loose or corroded.
