Tug in the News

I'm thinking that's Tugnacious.

It is, in fact, Tugnacious. And that is my aging profile trying to explain the west's most complicated water management problem to a NYT reporter. I took her out for one of the roughest days on the water one can possibly have. We left Benicia with a 25 kt westerly breeze blowing against a roaring ebb tide and worked our way to the western Delta were all the problems of California water converge at the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers. Short period, sharp, 3+ ft standing waves on the ebb tide meant full breaking waves against the windscreen. At full throttle I was making 8 kts against this tide. It was a wild ride and both the reporter and the very large photographer said they enjoyed the tour (although he looked a bit green). I would never have attempted this in anything but my sturdy, durable, reliable and good looking tug.

And if you want to learn more about this wicked problem (look up the definition of a wicked problem...sounds like a boat), go here:
