Our 2011 ranger 27 is running fine to 7 or 7.5 knots but doesn’t want to accelerate when throttling up. I changed the fuel filter and cleaned the turbo intake filter. The mechanics on the area are all booked solid for at least four weeks. Has others experienced this? I’m wondering if it has something to do with the turbo. If you have thoughts or suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks, B and K

Remove the air filter and check that the vanes in the turbo spin freely.
Check the waste gate on the turbo that the line is connected.
When you are running the boat up to 7 knots is the boost pressure the same as before the problem started?
There was an owner on here who had a faulty wastegate and couldn’t source a replacement as Yanmar only sold it with a complete turbo. I don’t think he posted how it was resolved.

Adding to Brian's comment, If your vanes are not turning freely see if you can free them up. Once freed up get a spray bottle and fill with water and dish soap and make a soapy solution. As you increase RPM's in neutral spray a bit. This will wash away any buildup and hopefully resolve a stuck vane issue.

If you are guilty of running at hull speed and low RPM's a lot, the turbo can soot/carbon up so that the next time you go to throttle up nothing happens except maybe lots of smoke. Follow the other directions here to clean and hopefully you'll be back in business. Run at high RPM's for a few minutes every day to avoid this.
