Turned over 1,000 hours on my 97 21EC. It seems most used 21's for sale have about 400 hours at the most on them so I was wondering who has the most engine hours on a 21.

This summer I met a couple with an Albin 27 that had 7,800 hours on their engine. They bought the boat with 7,700 hours on it and weren't even sure what brand of engine it was. Seems Albin used a variety of brands and horsepower ratings in their old 27''s. The engine ran fine.

Forgive me for quibbling, but your 21EC is a 2007 (NOT a 1997), RIGHT? That makes the 'kilohour' mark even more momentous. Correct me if wrong.

Does hours under tow count? If so I got about 1.25 in today according to the tow invoice. Ugh.

I feel inadequate as a 21 owner. I am only at about 900. I did cheat though. I bought my 21 used and it came with a lot of hours. I think I only added about 200 before it quit running last June.

Who are the crazies that are selling their tugs with 40 or 50 hours on them after three or four years?

Yeah, I'm one of those guys with a 5 year old boat with 200 hours. A lot of that centers around making other people happy rather than myself.
Rusting to death kills vastly more more marine diesels than running them. We have diesel engines here on the farm that have 6000 to 9000 hours on them without being overhauled - and that is common in farming/trucking/industry.
The equipment here in the Northern tier of states sit for 6 months out of the year the same as boats.
So a thousand hours on your boat engine means it is barely broke in . :mrgreen:

That means you actually use the boat. Check your owners manual, there is a lost more intensive maintenance schedule. It may involve checking the compression? Your engine could go 10,000 or even 20,000 hrs. if properly maintained.

You're right it is a 2007 and it did have about 450 hours on it when I purchased it about 18 months ago.

No problems.
